summercloud Campaign. (Part One can be found here.) This is her raincheck fic for my Anniversary Challenge. She requested something clever and snarky, Yaoi or Yuri, on the theme of "When the establishment gets you down..." I think I finally managed snarky, but I don't know how well I did on 'clever' ^^a Ah, well. Hope you like, Summercloud!
Fic: House Rules
"So he says, 'I'm sorry, Shin'ichi, but you can't date co-workers. It's against regulations." Shin'ichi took another swallow of beer, his face drawn in bitter lines. "'Against regulations'. Hah! They just decided to start cracking down on it since Satou and Takagi got married last month."
"Hey, you got it easy here," Heiji told him. "Back in Osaka, they don't take any of that. Kazuha joins the force and my superiors're breathin' down my neck if I even look at her funny. And they like me. You should see what they do to some of the other guys." He shuddered at the memory. "Lemme tell you, Kudo, it ain't pretty."
"It's not fair," Shin'ichi muttered morosely, sounding more childish than when he was actually child-sized. "I'm stuck as Conan for three years--three years--and now that I'm back to normal finally I still can't do anything with Ran because it's against regulations!"
Heiji opened his mouth to say something, then changed his mind and closed it as a thought occurred to him. He eyed his beer bottle suspiciously, not sure why he was actually considering it. He'd thought about it before, sure, but never seriously. Kudo had been stuck as a kid for most of the time they'd known each other, and there was Kazuha and Ran besides. Now, though, that wasn't an option. "Well," he said at last, "we aren't exactly co-workers, Kudo..."
Shin'ichi's bottle halted its progress to his mouth and he turned his head so he could stare at Heiji properly. Heiji, flustered, looked away and started babbling.
"Don't give me that look, Kudo," he said. "It's not like I'm suggestin' we get together or anythin'. I'm just sayin', as an example--"
Shin'ichi took the opportunity to cut him off. Enthusiastically so. With tongue.
They broke apart after a few seconds. Heiji's face was flushed, though he could always blame it on the alcohol. He rubbed the back of his head nervously. "Well. I guess that's a 'yes'?"
Shin'ichi's response was to grin and kiss him again.

Took me forever to find a plunny for this ^^; When I finally found one, I decided to stick it to Heiji and Shin'ichi, mostly because I don't see a lot of that pairing 'round these parts. Found out that they have an interesting dynamic. May have to work with them more--though Hakuba and Shin'ichi will probably remain my crack!OTP.
Next on the list is a cookie for
ickaimp, for working to get Prince Ichi up on Schizophrenia (er, eventually), and more from the Nikendo universe for
ysabet for enabling the plunnies hosting Prince Ichi. Lots of love for you guys ^^v

Date: 2005-09-29 05:51 am (UTC)And the Establishment is no longer getting me down! My evil!boss has been fired, and my life has improved 500%. And as a thank-you for the presents, here's a bit from a future Matchmakers fic:
*
"I can't believe they did they did this to us!" Aoko gave the locked door one final glare, then spun around, hands on her hips, and transfered the glare to Akako.
"What, that Kuroba trapped us in a broom closer, or that he used an innocent little kid to do it?" Akako smirked.
If glares could peel paint, Aoko's would have stripped the wood bare. "I hate you."
Aoko's answering smile was all teeth. "The feeling is mutual, I assure you."

I think we should discuss my habit of locking people in closets. It's sort of disturbing, really.
(Still looking for a title, as well.)

Date: 2005-09-29 04:37 pm (UTC)Yay, sneak preview! *latches onto it like Conan with a mystery novel*
I think everyone has to write a closet!fic at least once. It seems to be a defining characteristic of DC/MK writers.
(Sorry, no suggestions at the moment. I'll try and think of something, though.)
