What do you mean exactly by alternative community? A comm with stories about alternative pairing, not matters if it's hot and steamy smut or pure waff with just kiss and cuddles(and of course, no matters if those pairings are yuri, yaoi or het)?
If it's the case, it would seem like the best solution for me(after all, there are already stories without a bit of sex inside this comm, it wouldn't be fair for their authors if the comm was suddenly becoming an adult one), but before to makes a choice, I've still one little question...
Could you change the name of the comm or not?
(Sorry if the answers is ridiculously obvious, I'm a total newbie with those matters...^^;)
If you couldn't, then I think that you should keep the comm as it is(Yaoi and yuri, no matters if it's smut or waff, and with het allowed as long there is yaoi/yuri as well in the story), because, Nighty had already mentionned it, when a newbie see a comm with the word yaoi in its name, he wouldn't thought that het stories without a bit of yaoi could be allowed inside...

By alternative community I meant an 'Alternative Pairing Community'. Any rating, such as DC_yaoi is now. No ShinRan, Kaito/Aoko, Heiji/Kazuha, Sato/Takagi or Sonoko/Makoto, any of the 'canon' pairings.
Yaoi pairings are not 'canon', therefore would still be welcome.

As far as a name change, it would be possible (DCMK_Adult?), if I had either the money or the LJ dollars. Even if we don't expand the focus of the comm, I wouldn't mind changing it to 'DCMK_yaoi', just to get rid of the 'DC', because most DC Comics comms start with 'DC_'.

It took a lot of thought about this decision, but ... I like dc_yaoi the way it is. As Random said, there's plenty of stories that are just shonen or shoujo-ai, and it's nice not to have to warn. Now, I don't mind if people post het--it's certainly easier to post it here than mc1t--but we shouldn't change so much we become simply 'adult mc1t' or, gods forbid, 'het only adult'. If nothing else, what's to stop us sprouting off yet another comm for 'general adult'? It's not as if it'd be competition--hell, I'd join it too.

'gods forbid' in the sense of 'banning shonen/shojou-ai'. I don't mind allowing people to pick what they want so they don't have to make Grand Decisions every time they read their flist, but no censorship kthxbai.

What about shonen-ai/shoujo-ai? If we turn this into a general adult community or even adult alternative pairing community, would they be banned from here? I don't write lemons or R/NC-17 and I like the idea of having a community I could post them to for just the people interested in shonen-ai/yaoi fics and not to everyone on MC1T - a good part who aren't interested. But if we allow shonen-ai/shoujo-ai, then we'll need to let het G/PG rating fics and that point, we're practically a copy of MC1T which isn't what we're wanting. (At least I don't think so.)

So yeah. I'm strongly leaning to "Nothing, keep it as it is". I understand there's people who don't want to post R/NC-17 fics to MC1T for whatever reason, so... if we want an adult-oriented community, let's make a third fic community. I think there's enough interest (judging by the kink meme anyway) to make it worthwhile.

I'm torn between "Alternative (Pairings?) Community" and "Keep it as it is". A comm for rarer pairings that allows only adult stuff is completely uninteresting for me plot-whore (and where are the adult fics for traditional pairings going then?), and on the other hand I like this community as it is, as the place to go when I'm in search of yaoi and yuri fics and fanart.
I guess I'll just join randomaicoholic for now and ask whether dc_yaoi would be renamed or not depending on the poll result. If the answer is no, I'll stick to "Keep it as it is".

As for 'general adult' fics, I think a new comm would be best to make everybody happy.:)

Hmmm...

I've been reading the comments in the 2-3 posts on the question, and my general impression overall is that it would probably be easier for everyone involved to keep DC_Yaoi more or less as it is and create a new adult comm, with a focus on alternate (and I suggest also rare canon-) pairings. It would probably still be a bit awkward to set up at first, but I think it would avoid a lot of confusion. Nothing would prevent it from having close links to this comm and MC1T if desired.

That said, allowing adult HET to DC_yaoi would probably save a lot of time and energy, so I'd be fine with it either way. Am just slightly wary of the confusion it could bring... (including community name change. 8D;; ) But yeah, a place to welcome adult DC_ficcage? Awesome. BD

If I may? Just chiming in as a mod over on MC1T.

manycases1truth allows all ratings, from G to NC-17. While the majority tends to be around the PG/PG-13 (K+/T) ratings, that seems to be a pretty normal fanfic rating curve for any fandom, if you ask me. When I created MC1T, I established the self-rating/warning rule because a) most writing comms I'd seen had the same rule and b) I do it myself. It's a lot easier to just put NC-17 at the top of a fic than answer a whole bunch of "OMGWHYFOR?!" comments.

That being said? I adore dc_yaoi just the way it is. It's a specialist community that enables you to read a whole bunch of specialized smut without having to really dig for it. I just don't want anyone to be afraid of cross-posting anything over on MC1T because it's porn!
