Fic: Confession

"Heiji," Kazuha said, in tones of Complete and Utter Seriousness, "I think we need to talk."

Heiji's blood ran cold; this couldn't be good. Still, worse things were likely to happen if he tried to get out of talking, so he said "Okay," and allowed himself to be pulled into a chair.

Kazuha sank into the seat across from him and took his hand, looking steadily into his eyes. "Now Heiji," she said soberly, "You know you're my best friend, right?" Heiji's heart sank. This wasn't good at all--had she found out about him and Okita? "And you know you can tell me anythin' and I'll always be your friend, no matter what, right?" Kazuha continued to gently prod. Yup, Heiji mentally confirmed, she knew about him and Okita. "So," Kazuha prompted, "isn't there anythin' you'd like to tell me?"

Okay, this was it. Heiji took a deep breath, squared his shoulders, looked her right in the eye and said, "Kazuha, I'm bisexual. I've been going out with Okita for a few months now and--"

"No, no, not that," Kazuha interrupted, "though I'm glad you finally decided to tell me. I found out about that weeks ago, but you two were, ah, too busy to notice anyone lookin' in the changin' rooms. What I want ta know is whether you ate the cookies I baked yesterday."

Heiji blinked, dumbfounded. "No, that wasn't me," he told her. "I'm pretty sure it was your dad, actually."

Kazuha pondered this. "Dad, huh? Well, I'll just go see what he has to say about those missing cookies." She smiled at Heiji and patted his hand. "I'm glad we had this little talk." Rising to her feet and cracking her knuckles, Kazuha strode out of the room purposefully. Heiji watched her go, feeling momentarily sorry for her father. Kazuha, he reflected, was a very strange girl.

Promised Ysabet more from this universe a while ago; finally got around to writing it. Forgot briefly in the original draft that the kids would've graduated from high school by now, so had to do a last-minute editing job in this version; oops ^^a

Anyway, was thinking about actually writing how Ran and Kazuha's weekly meetings started, but I couldn't seem to get interested in it. Maybe it just seemed too serious for a companion to Nikendo; I dunno. For whatever reason, it wasn't working, so I decided to go with this instead. Hope you like, Ysabet!

Also, I have an idea for what I'll ask for--but I'll need to know if you're willing to draw Arsene (chibi!Kaito name nicked from clover_magic, chibi!Aoko, Rin, and Conan in (if I can find pictures of the source) CLAMP Campus uniforms. ^^ It's concept art/fanart for another of those Crossovers of Great and Hilarious Evil my friend gamlain keep inventing. (To illustrate briefly, it involves that lot, Sakura, Syaoran and Tomoyo all going to CLAMP Campus. Highlights so far include Conan being absolutely convinced that their new friend has her own crime syndicate that is so frightening it makes BO agents disappear as if Erased. ^~)

Well, since I'm his co-writer, perhaps this and that--and the careful application of more Meitantei Conan canon--will induce him to do something for it.

Possible corollary idea: Conan starts his own Little Mafia. (Ack! The pun, the pun!) Because sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. Hee.
