Sighing, Vermouth leaned back in the car seat, trying to ease the pain a little. At least her plan had succeeded.
Her real plan, that was. Not the one she'd been assigned to by the organization.
Smiling, she turned towards the figure in the seat next to her.
"You can stop pretending to be asleep now, I know you're immune to that drug. We're alone now."
Edogawa Conan, also known as Kudo Shinichi to a select few, cracked an eye open and gave her a smirk.
"You know too much as always." His smirk stretched into a playful grin. "You really should watch yourself better, Auntie."
"Stop calling me that, it makes me feel old."
"You are old, Auntie."
"Such a rude nephew I have."
Stretching, Conan continued grinning at her as he began to pull electronics off himself - the bugs and wires he'd use to set up the elaborate trick on the ship. He'd turned them off as soon as she'd gotten him into the car, she knew. They couldn't chance anyone outside the family knowing of the connection.
He deposited the wires in a pile, and she had to raise an eyebrow at the sheer amount of them. He certainly could conceal a lot on that small body. Then again, he was taught by the best.
"You picked that up from Kaito, didn't you?"
Snorting, the not-boy crossed his arms behind his head, relaxing into the seat. "More like it was shoved down my throat. Wouldn't let me leave his house until I knew how to conceal practically a mile of bugs on me."
She chuckled quietly, though it hurt to do so. "Such a caring boyfriend you have."
She saw the brief flash of red across Conan's cheeks before he forced the instinctive blush down. "He's not my boyfriend, he's my cousin."
"I'm sure he begs to differ. And you never seem to mind too much in his presence." She smiled, amused. "Especially considering the noises I heard the other night."
This time the red was neither brief nor faint, and he almost sputtered. "Must you always have the bugs turned on?"
"Of course. Can't chance something happening to my beloved family just because I turned a bug off, now can I?"
"You're just as bad as Mom, no wonder you're sisters. At least you don't take pictures. You really need a kid of your own so you stop stalking me and Kaito."
"Me? A child?" Mock-affronted, she tossed her hair. "I'll have you know I'm the cool aunt, the one who will never have kids and brings back odd souvenirs from around the globe for my sweet nephews."
"That, and no one wants to deal with you long enough to have a kid."
She lightly bopped him on the head, speaking in a sweet tone. "Be respectful to your family."
He snorted again, before turning to her, his light manner fading as he turned to business. "So what's the plan this time? We managed to convince Sherry we're on opposite sides. Any other assurances you need? What's the organization after, anyways?"
She studied her nails, pretending to be nonchalant as she thought about her wording. "Well.....now that Sherry is convinced, I have little to do here. The boss has ordered me back anyways, so I doubt you'll be seeing much of me from now on. I was sent to track down Sherry, and bring her back to the organization, dead or alive. However, I decided to fudge that job, considering your plans for her. What does Yuusaku want with that girl?"
"He thinks her genius with chemicals might come in handy. Also, she's rumored to be a part of one of the organization's experiments, and you know how dangerous those can end up for us if we don't interfere." She nodded. She knew well enough indeed, considering she'd come out on the bad side of one of them just earlier this evening. She grimaced, holding her side. Damn that FBI agent, Akai Shuuichi. And damn the organization for making him but not watching him close enough, letting him run off to the FBI and begin hunting down the organization. The organization's human weapons were a closly guarded secret, and she was quite sure that whoever had let Shuuichi free to do as he pleased with no loyalty implanting no longer existed on this earth. The human weapons were a deadly force, smarter and stronger and faster than normal people. It was a close call whenever she ran up against him, and she was sure a normal person would have died from his bullets by now.
But she nor any of her family were exactly "normal", and they held their own secrets. Like her ever-youthful face, and Kaito and Shinichi's rapport, and their too-sharp intelligence. There were certainly lots of secrets when you belonged to the family.
Smiling at Conan, she pulled out her cellphone. "Well, better get someone from the organization to pick me up. Agasa is on his way for you, isn't he? Be a good dear and puncture the gas tank for me. Make it look natural, now."
Nodding, Conan grabbed his pile of wiring and opened the door. "Standard kidnapping case cover-up this time?"
"That would be best. Oh, and check on Angel dear for me, would you? I think she was rather shaken up by having to go against me. But it was her first mission run, even if she didn't know, and she passed with flying colors. She protected the family's main goal and avoided being killed herself. She'll make a fine agent, though she'll need some emotional training. Of course, since she saw me, you might want to tell her now, since all she knew me as before was Shinichi's dear aunt."
"Of course. I've been searching Ran out for years. She's loyal to me enough now that I should be able to convince her of anything. She'll believe what I tell her." He smirked. "Sometimes her love is a good thing. It gives me a good grip on her at least."
"Don't be so cruel to Angel. Love is no bad thing. And I'm sure Kaito will be more than willing to convince you about how nice it can be. Especially since he seems to be doing rather well already, with how moony-eyed you sometimes go at him."
This time he did sputter. "You....just-oh, be quiet, Auntie."
Laughing, she gave him a light push out of the door. "Get going on that gas tank, dear, I can see Agasa's car up the road."
Grumbling, he shut the door, heading around to the back of the car. Smiling to herself, she leaned back in the seat, dialing Gin's number.
Time to go back to playing the dutiful organization member. She'd be that part for as long as it took, until it was brought down and the family took it's right place as ruler of the underground, and Shinichi took his rightful place as the prince, and one day king. After all, Yuusaku wasn't like her and Yukiko and her dearly departed brother Toichi and their children, he was just a normal human. He couldn't live forever.
But she could. And she'd be by her dear nephew's side, every step of the way, until everything was set to rights once again.
